circa 1885

In 1885, the Drusch-Koeller family’s saloon (the present day Gasconade Co Health Department building) featured a one-lane bowling alley off the back (our basement). In 1895, a residence was built atop the bowling alley, which was home to Heinrich Drusch and Clara Koeller for years following.

For the most part, the home’s historic details were left in tact/covered over the years as a bed & breakfast, until the summer of 2019, when we purchased the property and began our restoration work.

Renaming it ‘The Schiller House’ for the street it calls home, we painted, uncovered original hardwood under carpet, replaced linoleum with tile and furnished with antique furniture and fixtures. The house thoughtfully mixes old with new and was designed to be a charming, yet comfortable and functional oasis in the heart of Hermann’s bustling historic district.

As a nod to Hermann’s rich wine-making history and the town’s present day status as a destination for imbibing, we decided to swap our B&B’s breakfast for beverages. Thus, The Schiller House Bed & Beverage was born.

We look forward to your stay.
